Are you a Teacher looking for a new opportunity in an additionally resourced Provision?
Are you passionate about teaching children with Special Needs?
Have you got good experience working with children with different communication needs?
The role
I am seeking a strong teacher to teach a class in an ARP of a mainstream primary school. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a good background in SEN to showcase their skills and teach a class of 6-8 pupils. All children in the class have a diagnosis of Autism, and some can present with challenging behaviour.
The children range across year 3, year 4 and year 6, however, they are working at KS1 level. One child in the class is nonverbal, so it is essential that the Teacher understands why different communication methods are necessary, and can implement some, such as PECs and core boards.
Due to children’s needs, sometimes they can present with challenging behaviour. Therefore, it is important that the successful Teacher has a strong background in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. There are 3 members of support staff assigned to this class, so there is lots of help to help manage this.
It is also important that the successful Teacher has experience in planning and assessing children with additional needs so that areas of improvement can be highlighted, which as a result, will allow the children to achieve the best that they can.
Teacher Requirements
- Able to deliver core subjects
- Experience in teaching with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies
- Positive role model to support communication, with a sensitive, nurturing, and consistent approach
- Experience with communication methods such as PEC’s and Core Boards
- Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students
- Experience working with disengaged teenagers is essential
