We are working with an ‘Outstanding’ special needs school based in Enfield and are looking for passionate, energetic, and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistants. The school caters for students with complex needs, a high number of students with ASC in early years and key stage 1 & 2. 

The school is looking for committed staff to stay with them long-term and can offer permanent opportunities. The school offers training and people development in any needed areas, as well as apprenticeships and help towards becoming a qualified teacher.

Key Responsibilities Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide 1:1 and group support to students with SEND, helping them access the curriculum.
  • Support students with personal care needs when necessary 
  • Using symbols to support students with communication difficulties 
  • Promote social interaction, independent learning, and self-esteem in all students.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver individual education plans (IEPs) and monitor progress.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive emotionally and academically.
  • Encourage positive behaviour through a consistent and caring approach, in line with the school's behaviour policy.
  • Support with physical and sensory needs, including helping with the use of specialist equipment where required.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in an SEN setting or with children with SEND.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with special needs.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, following guidance from teachers and other professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different levels of understanding.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm approach in challenging situations.

Do you have experience in Paediatric Occupational Therapy and looking for a role in which to specialise working with children? I am seeking a Occupational Therapist for a special school based in Hammersmith & Fulham, they cater for students with a wide range of needs and conditions, ranging from children with autism through to social, emotional and mental health needs. The school has two settings, one that offers a nurturing environment for students with SEMH and understanding their behaviours and another one for learning with a diverse range of needs, mainly being ASC with classes provided according to their needs. About the role of school-based Occupational Therapist The whole purpose of a school-based Occupational Therapist is to help children succeed. As an OT based in a specialist SEN settings, you will look at the whole child, tackling individual tasks, helping students find ways to do the things they need and want to do. You will liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary clinical team to provide an intensive treatment service. You will engage the children and young people within the school in innovative, helpful therapeutic and meaningful activity, supporting them in learning and reaching their full potential. Requirements for this Occupational Therapist (OT) To work as a school based Occupational Therapist, you will need to hold a recognised Occupational Therapy degree, be HCPC registered and a registered member of the British College of Occupational Therapists.
