About the Role

Specialist SEND Support Assistant (High-Quality, Experienced)

Role: Specialist SEND Support Assistant (Split Role: AM and PM Support)

Stratford - Immediate Start

Are you a high-quality, experienced member of staff ready for a specialist challenge? A Primary School in Stratford is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Specialist TA to support the complex needs of two distinct pupils currently attending part-time, with the shared goal of building towards full-time attendance. We are looking for candidates of high caliber and quality.

The Role and Responsibilities

This position requires flexibility and expertise, as the assistant will transition between two highly specialised support roles during the day:

Morning Focus (Supporting Child 1):

  • Provide intensive support within our dedicated specialist class.
  • The specialist class is a small group (eight or nine children) and includes access to a soft play sensory room and a specialist teacher.
  • Support a child who has social struggles and non-verbal.
  • The child is new to the country (Romanian) and previously recommended by an educational psychologist to probably be in a special school.
  • The child has some previous schooling history (nursery and one school) but has not attended the second school for three or four years.

Afternoon Focus (Supporting Child 2):

  • Support a pupil in Year Five.
  • Manage and support a child with a history of challenging behavior, focusing on maintaining the recent reduction in incidents (e.g., currently maybe one push this week).
  • Support a child who has experienced lots of trauma related to their journey and reasons for being here.
  • Address significant underlying needs that were not being met.
  • The pupil is new to the country, whose previous education system was very different, and who initially arrived not on medication he had previously been taking.
  • The child has recently returned to school attendance after spending the rest of the last academic year in the PRU (Pupil Referral Unit/Placement Unit).
  • Provide focused support due to his EAL (English as an Additional Language) level, which is still at the initial learning stage (around Year One level).

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate must be a specialist and an experienced member of staff. We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience as a SEND specialist TA.
  • Expertise in supporting pupils with complex behavioral needs and trauma.
  • Ability to support non-verbal children and those recommended for special school placements.
  • Understanding of the challenges facing pupils who are new to the country (EAL).
  • CVs and profiles will be reviewed to ensure a high-quality match.
