SEMH Teaching Assistant - MS Secondary School - Hackney

Contract: Full-time (5 days a week)
Salary: £85 - £90 PAYE
Job Description:
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants to join our vibrant mainstream secondary school in Hackney. This is a full-time role, starting in September 2024, where you will play a pivotal part in supporting students who have been affected by mental health issues or display challenging, anti-social behavior.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Assist teachers in creating an inclusive learning environment that caters to the emotional and academic needs of all students.
- Implement and support individualized learning plans and behavioral strategies.
- Foster positive relationships with students, helping them to develop coping strategies, resilience, and social skills.
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
- Monitor and report on student progress, adjusting support plans as necessary.
- Encourage positive behavior and promote the well-being and mental health of all students.
Essential Requirements:
- Previous experience working with secondary school students, particularly those with SEMH needs.
- A solid understanding of the challenges faced by students with mental health issues or those affected by anti-social behavior.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young people.
- Ability to manage challenging behavior in a calm and professional manner.
- Relevant qualifications or training in education, mental health, or youth work (desirable but not essential).
