Are you a dedicated Teacher seeking a rewarding opportunity in an additionally resourced Provision? Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Special Needs? Do you have experience working with children who have diverse communication needs?

The Role

We are seeking a resilient Teacher to lead a class within an ARP of a mainstream primary school. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in SEN to demonstrate their skills and teach a class of 6-8 pupils. All students in the class have a diagnosis of Autism, with some presenting challenging behaviour.

The students span across year 3, year 4, and year 6, although they are working at KS1 level. Understanding different communication methods, such as PECs and core boards, is crucial, especially as one student in the class is nonverbal.

Given the children's needs, occasional challenging behaviour may arise. Therefore, it is vital for the successful Teacher to possess a robust background in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. With three support staff members assigned to this class, there is ample assistance available to manage these situations effectively.

Moreover, the successful Teacher should have experience in planning and assessing children with additional needs to identify areas for improvement, enabling students to achieve their full potential.

Teacher Requirements

  • Ability to deliver core subjects effectively
  • Experience in teaching emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies
  • Serve as a positive role model to facilitate communication, with a nurturing and consistent approach
  • Proficiency in communication methods such as PECs and Core Boards
  • Capability to establish strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students
  • Essential experience working with disengaged teenagers
