About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Brent. You will be working on a 1:1 basis with students who have a range of special educational needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and ADHD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with additional needs

  • Support students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour management strategies

  • Assist the class teacher with lesson planning and classroom activities

  • Help maintain a structured and engaging learning environment

  • Implement EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets and personalised learning strategies

  • Provide emotional and pastoral support to students with complex needs

  • Liaise with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure tailored support

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly SEMH, ASD, or ADHD

  • Calm, empathetic, and patient approach to behaviour management

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Background in SEN schools, PRUs (Pupil Referral Units), or alternative provisions

  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice or therapeutic support approaches

  • Previous experience in youth work, care work, or psychology-based roles

  • Flexibility, resilience, and a proactive attitude to learning support

  • Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
