About the Role

SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism, ADHD, and Communication Needs
Location: Sutton
Full Time | Long Term Contract

Are you passionate about supporting neurodivergent young people to reach their full potential in a nurturing and structured environment?

Parker Smith Inclusion are working with a specialist secondary school in Sutton that provides a tailored education for students with Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, and associated behavioural challenges. The school is seeking an experienced and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team on a full-time, long-term basis.

About the Role:

This is a varied and rewarding position supporting students who may experience barriers to learning due to difficulties with communication, emotional regulation, focus, and sensory integration.

You will:

  • Build consistent, supportive relationships with students to help reduce anxiety and build trust

  • Support students with communication, using strategies such as Makaton, PECS, and visual aids

  • Help implement structured routines, positive behaviour support strategies, and sensory regulation techniques

  • Encourage students’ independence, emotional resilience, and self-esteem

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support, adapting tasks to meet individual needs and EHCP targets

  • Be prepared to support students with personal care and physical needs when necessary (training provided)

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents/carers, and external professionals to provide consistent, holistic support

Who We’re Looking For:

You’ll be a great fit if you:

  • Have experience working with young people with Autism, ADHD, and associated communication or behavioural needs

  • Understand the importance of clear communication, boundaries, and routines in supporting neurodivergent learners

  • Are calm, patient, and confident when working with challenging behaviour and emotional dysregulation

  • Have used or are familiar with tools like PECS, Makaton, or other visual/symbol systems

  • Are willing to support personal care needs where required

  • Hold (or are willing to obtain) First Aid and manual handling training
