SEN Teaching Assistant - Autism, Complex Needs and Severe Learning Difficulties
Location: Merton
Start Date: 01/09/2025
Hours: Full-Time | Term-Time Only (Temp to Perm contract)
Salary: £90 - £95 per day (PAYE)

Do you have the confidence, empathy and resilience to support students with Autism, Complex Needs and SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties)?

The school provides a therapeutic, trauma-informed setting where students are supported holistically to succeed both in and out of the classroom, and the staff work with their pupils, offering wraparound support.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with Autism, Complex Needs, SLD and sensory needs and dysregulation.
  • Use a nurturing, empathetic approach to build trusting relationships
  • Support students across the curriculum in class and in interventions
  • Help young people manage behaviour and develop coping strategies
  • Take ownership and accountability for the progress and wellbeing of your key pupils
  • Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND or behavioural challenges
  • School based experience - If you have personal experience welcome to apply
  • Confidence in supporting students within a secondary curriculum setting
  • calm, patient and emotionally resilient individual
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to de-escalate situations effectively
  • A team player who is passionate about promoting positive change in young lives
  • If you are someone who is passionate about Drama or Music, perhaps you've been an actor/musician in the past, this could be a great avenue to consider, as SEND schools use practical activities such as Drama, music, and arts in their day-to-day learning.
