Parker Smith Inclusion are proud to be working with a specialist secondary school that supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and a range of associated needs, including sensory processing differences, communication difficulties, learning disabilities, and complex behaviours. The school is looking for a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team on a full-time, long-term basis.

The Role:

This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a key part in supporting students’ development across communication, emotional regulation, independence, and learning.

You will:

  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with students and provide calm, structured support throughout the school day

  • Understand and respond to the individual communication styles of students – including using PECS, Makaton, and visual supports

  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to support structured learning and promote emotional and sensory regulation

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment, recognising triggers and behaviours linked to anxiety or sensory overload

  • Support pupils with personal care and daily routines with sensitivity and respect, promoting independence and self-esteem

  • Assist with manual handling for students with physical needs (training provided)

  • Collaborate with families, therapists, and the wider staff team to ensure consistency and shared understanding of students’ needs

About You:

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism and associated needs

  • Understands the importance of structure, routine, and visual communication tools in an autism-friendly setting

  • Is confident using or learning Makaton, PECS, or other AAC tools

  • Has a calm, consistent, and empathetic approach – particularly when supporting behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Is willing to support students with personal care and physical needs in a dignified and respectful manner

  • Has First Aid training (or is willing to obtain it)
