Are you an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist looking to become part of a multidisciplinary therapy team for a SEND school?

I am looking for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to become part of a permanent multidisciplinary therapy team based in a beautiful SEND school specialising in ASD and complex needs.

Main responsibilities for Speech and Language Therapist role:

  • Assessment and intervention planning
  • Group and individual therapy as required
  • Working within classes and providing consultative support as part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Development and implementation of training for staff and other professionals
  • Curriculum development
  • Report writing and record keeping

Requirements for Speech and Language Therapists:

  • Highly motivated, passionate, dynamic and flexible
  • Wants to grow with the school and become a fully immersed member of the team
  • Has relevant experience of working with young people with special needs, especially autism spectrum disorder
  • Has highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is RCSLT and HCPC registered or working towards this
  • Hold a Bachelors or Masters's Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.

This SEND school caters for students with Autism and provides education for children aged 4 - 19. They are a well-equipped school with excellent leadership across their schools that provide a positive and safe learning environment for their children. Their provision for post16 allows for their students to learn skills for independent living and life beyond school, this could be to prepare them for work or college life. Maybe you are looking to make the transition into SEND teaching? Do you have a strong background in supporting children with SLCN (Speech & Language Communication Needs)? The role I am seeking a strong teacher to teach a class in an ARP of a mainstream primary school. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a good background in SEN to showcase their skills and teach a class of 6-8 pupils. All children in the class have SLCN and require patience and nurturing to help to educate. Some pupils in the class are nonverbal, so it is essential that the Teacher understands why different communication methods are necessary and can implement some, such as PECs, core boards and Makaton. Due to children’s needs, sometimes they can present with challenging behaviour. Therefore, it is important that the successful Teacher has a strong background in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. There are 3 members of support staff assigned to this class, so there is lots of help to help manage this. It is also important that the successful Teacher has experience in planning and assessing children with additional needs so that areas of improvement can be highlighted, which as a result, will allow the children to achieve the best that they can. Duties · To undertake the daily supervision and teaching of students in the Inclusion Room and Learning Resource Centre. · To liaise with Heads of Department to ensure students have access to suitable resources. · To ensure that students have full access to the curriculum while they are in the Inclusion Room and Learning Resource Centre. · To liaise with the SEND department to ensure that students are receiving additional learning support during their placement. · To work with the pastoral team in order to understand the needs and behaviours of the students being referred. · To provide behavioural and emotional support for students who have been placed in the Inclusion area. · Assess, record and report on development, progress and behaviour. · Liaise with staff and other relevant professionals and provide information about pupils as appropriate. · Support pupils with their social and emotional well-being, by developing effective SEMH strategies for students during their placement. · Support the role of parents/carers in pupils’ learning and contribute to meetings with parents/carers to provide constructive feedback on pupil progress/achievement etc. · To ensure students have a clear reintegration plan at the end of their placement and to monitor their reintegration back to mainstream. · Liaise with external agencies on a regular basis. · Supervise students at breaks and lunchtimes and take duties as required. · To take a positive approach to behaviour by forging strong and respectful relations with students. · To contribute to the school’s rich extra curricula programme. · To work effectively within a team, support colleagues and not be afraid to ask for support. · To take responsibility for your own professional development including attending relevant CPD events and identifying personal developmental targets.
