About the Role
We're Hiring: 1:1 Support Mentor (Fixed-Term – 1 Academic Year)
Location: Richmond Upon Thames
Contract Type: Full-time, Fixed Term (1 Academic Year)
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £123.53 per day (Term time only)
Are you passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?
Do you have a strong background in academic support and behaviour management? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Support Mentor to work with a young man who has Autism with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and challenging behaviour. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a young person’s life by providing tailored academic and emotional support.
The Role:
As a 1:1 Support Mentor, you will:

Provide daily academic support, both in and out of class.

Offer mentoring focused on social, emotional, and well-being development.

Work closely with teaching staff and SEND teams to implement strategies tailored to the student’s needs.

Use strong behaviour management techniques to create a calm and supportive learning environment.

Engage the pupil through their personal interests, particularly in History, to build rapport and encourage positive learning experiences.

Supporting the pupil's dysregulation is key here, so you must be confident in supporting this.

Be present in lessons, support transitions, and ensure consistency throughout the school day.
What We're Looking For:

Proven experience in working with young people with SEND and challenging behaviour.

A strong foundation in academic support, ideally across a range of subjects.

Someone who has a good sense of humour and able to engage in the pupil's interests.

Allow the pupil to get his emotions and struggles off his chest, allow him time to vent.
-
Supportive of outbursts and dysregulation, and offer reassurance.
-
Excellent communication and de-escalation skills.
-
A patient, consistent, and empathetic approach to mentoring.
-
A genuine interest in History and the ability to discuss and engage the pupil in this subject.

Team player attitude with the initiative to work independently when needed.
