About the Role
SEMH Teacher – Make a Difference Every Day
Location: Merton
Start Date: October Half Term
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Salary: For teachers who hold QTS: £194.21 - £258.84. For Unqualified Teachers: £115.91 - £160 (depending on experience)

At Parker Smith Inclusion, we’re looking for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join a specialist setting supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Whether you're a qualified teacher or an unqualified educator with experience in SEND, youth work, or alternative provisions then we want to hear from you.
The Role:
-
Deliver lessons across the curriculum with a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach
-
Support students aged 11–16 with SEMH needs, some of whom may have additional diagnoses such as ADHD, ASD, or PTSD

Create a calm, engaging, and supportive learning environment
-
Work closely with support staff, therapists, and external agencies to meet individual student needs
-
Contribute to a nurturing school culture where every young person is seen, heard, and supported
You Might Be:
-
A qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS), or…
-
Unqualified but with relevant experience e.g., youth worker, HLTA, learning mentor, or support worker
-
Someone with a genuine passion for inclusion and mental health
-
Experienced in working with vulnerable or challenging young people, ideally in a school or care setting
-
Calm under pressure, emotionally resilient, and creative in your approach to learning

You will work with the school's multidisciplinary therapy team, helping students find ways to do the things they need and want to do. These opportunities will suit teachers who have a passion and natural ability to engage hard-to-reach pupils and those with strong classroom presence. You will engage the children and young people within the school in innovative, therapeutic, and meaningful activities, supporting them in learning to help them reach their full potential.
Requirements for SEMH Teacher:
To work as a SEMH Teacher, you will ideally hold QTS or QTLS or have relevant experience as a Teacher. Solid experience working with highly vulnerable children, pupils at risk of exploitation, gang-related issues, challenging behaviours, substance misuse, school avoiders, highly disengaged pupils, and anxiety disorders is beneficial, but we want to hear from ALL teachers. If you are interested in a teaching approach that is holistic and therapeutic but don’t necessarily have this experience yet, please still enquire.
