About the role A school-based Occupational Therapist aims to help vulnerable children and young people be as independent as possible. You will look at the whole child, tackling individual tasks and helping children find ways to do what they need and want to do. You will also liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary team, including Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists, and teaching/support staff. You will engage with the children and young people within the school in innovative, helpful therapeutic and meaningful activities, supporting them in learning and reaching their full potential. Requirements You must hold a recognised Occupational Therapy degree and be HCPC registered You will need solid experience, ideally working with highly vulnerable children and young people or children with Autism/ASC and learning disabilities Overseas-trained and newly qualified Band 5 Occupational Therapists are welcome to apply! All children in the class have SLCN and require patience and nurturing to help to educate. Some pupils in the class are nonverbal, so it is essential that the Teacher understands why different communication methods are necessary and can implement some, such as PECs, core boards and Makaton. Due to children’s needs, sometimes they can present with challenging behaviour. Therefore, it is important that the successful Teacher has a strong background in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. There are 3 members of support staff assigned to this class, so there is lots of help to help manage this. It is also important that the successful Teacher has experience in planning and assessing children with additional needs so that areas of improvement can be highlighted, which as a result, will allow the children to achieve the best that they can.
