The Role:

Teach and inspire a small class of pupils with SLD and PMLD, supported by skilled teaching assistants

Plan and deliver highly differentiated, engaging lessons tailored to each child’s needs and EHCP targets

Work closely with therapists, parents, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic progress

Create a nurturing, stimulating classroom environment where every pupil can thrive and feel valued
The Ideal Candidate:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS)

Experience working with SLD, PMLD or complex needs within a special school or SEND setting

A calm, positive and adaptable approach to teaching

Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for inclusive education

Are you an SEN Teacher who genuinely cares about helping children with Autism and social communication difficulties feel understood, safe and confident in school?
We are looking for a warm, committed and skilled SEN Teacher to join a specialist KS1 Centre supporting pupils with Autism, Speech & Language Needs and complex SEND. This is not just another teaching role it is an opportunity to become a consistent, trusted adult in the lives of children who need structure, patience and emotional safety to thrive.
This role would suit a teacher who is confident, calm and compassionate, and who understands that progress for children with SEND looks different and that every step forward matters.
About the Role
You will lead a small KS1 class of up to 10 pupils (Year 1 & Year 2), supported by two experienced SEN Teaching Assistants.
The children present with Autism, social communication difficulties, significant speech and language needs and distressed or challenging behaviours. Your role will be to plan and deliver an EYFS-based curriculum that is structured, personalised and accessible, helping each child build communication, independence and emotional regulation skills.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver highly differentiated lessons using the EYFS curriculum
Create a calm, predictable and nurturing learning environment
Deliver personalised learning linked to EHCP targets and outcomes
Use visual supports, structured teaching and autism-specific strategies
Support emotional regulation using trauma-informed and positive behaviour approaches
Monitor progress and adapt learning accordingly
Work closely with parents, SENCo and external professionals
Lead and support SEN Teaching Assistants within the classroom
Contribute to reports, reviews and ongoing provision planning
The Ideal SEN Teacher Will Have:
QTS and experience teaching in KS1 or SEND settings
Strong experience supporting pupils with Autism and SEND
Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent way
Knowledge of EYFS, SEND strategies and structured teaching approaches
A nurturing, resilient and solution-focused approach
Excellent communication with pupils, families and colleagues
Desirable Experience
Experience in a specialist provision or resource base
Training in TEACCH, AAC, Makaton, Attention Autism or sensory integration
Experience supporting SEMH and regulation needs
Positive handling or trauma-informed practice training
