Are you passionate about transforming communication for children with autism, communication and specific learning difficulties? We are looking for a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary team at a ASC/SpLD, nurturing, forward-thinking specialist school supporting students aged 3-19.

About the Role:
You will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with a wide range of communication needs, including speech, language, and social communication challenges. Working closely with teachers, occupational therapists, and pastoral staff, you will design and deliver impactful interventions that help our learners thrive both academically and socially.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Carrying out assessments and delivering tailored speech and language therapy plans

  • Supporting staff with strategies and training to embed communication development across the curriculum

  • Working collaboratively with families to support generalisation of skills at home

  • Contributing to EHCP reviews and multi-agency planning

We’re Looking For:

  • A qualified Speech and Language Therapist (HCPC registered)

  • Experience or strong interest in working with autistic children and those with SpLD

  • A compassionate, proactive, and team-focused approach

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Main responsibilities for Speech and Language Therapist role:

  • Assessment and intervention planning
  • Group and individual therapy as required
  • Working within classes and providing consultative support as part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Development and implementation of training for staff and other professionals
  • Curriculum development
  • Encouraging a total communication approach across the school, making sure that staff are using the right combination of communication methods for each pupil. This includes use of low and high tech AAC for pupils at very early stages of their communication development, use of Makaton and key word signing across the school in different ways, balancing spoken and written communications in more advanced communicators as needed, and provision of a variety of ways to show knowledge and learning within lessons.
  • Supporting the consistent use of visuals to compensate for difficulties in understanding or processing verbal and written communication such as practical objects, pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, and use of symbol systems such as ‘In Print’ (Widget).
  • Joint planning and delivery of selected lessons with teachers to ensure consistent use of strategies to support communication, including but not limited to; Attention Autism / Awe and Wonder, reduced rate of speech, repetition of key information, breaking information down into smaller chunks, and explicit teaching of vocabulary, provision of key vocabulary and sentence starters, shape coding, and differentiated questioning.
  • Participating in problem-solving discussions around individuals, groups, and classes enabling specific support to be introduced and adapted as needed in a timely manner.
  • Running timetabled small group SLT sessions.
  • Providing additional paired or 1:1 SLT input as required.
  • Setting and outcoming communication targets for each pupil on a termly basis.
  • Writing annual reports and attending the pupils’ Annual Review Meetings.

This SEND school caters for students with Autism and provides education for children aged 3 - 19. They are a well-equipped school with excellent leadership across their schools that provide a positive and safe learning environment for their children.
