Our SEND school is a nurturing and inclusive specialist school dedicated to supporting children and young people aged 7 to 16 who face challenges relating to Autism, social, emotional, and mental health needs. We are looking for a dedicated Student Engagement Officer to join our committed team and help ensure every student feels seen, heard, and empowered.

About the Role

As a Student Engagement Officer, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive school culture. You will:

Build trusting relationships with students, supporting their engagement in learning and personal development.
Work closely with staff, families, and external agencies to understand and meet individual student needs.
Help design and lead enrichment activities, mentoring sessions, and interventions tailored to support emotional regulation, self-esteem, and resilience.
Support with attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing strategies to keep students motivated and connected to school life.
To plan and deliver sessions and re-engagement programmes with identified students:
To work with school avoidant students who are not attending school at any time or a pattern of non-attendance has been identified
To work with students at risk of persistent or severe absence from school (this may be pattern in absence/skipping specific lessons)
To work on reintegration with students who are persistently or severely absent or those at risk
Developing resources to deliver specific intervention programmes to tackle avoidance of school through emotional reasons
To conduct home visits where necessary in order to build a rapport with students who are unable to get into school during which an initial assessment can be completed
To offer interventions/safe space/soft landings support reintegration to school
To provide family support for parents of children who are avoiding school attendance
To bridge the communication between all school teams involved in supporting the student: Year Teams/SEN Admin/SEN Leadership/Attendance team/Teachers.
To provide information to staff which keeps them informed of students who are not attending and their planned reintegration. This could involve, but is not limited to: staff briefing notes, round robins, teacher strategy meetings, emails with staff and contact with home.
Be aware of and comply with Trust and school policies and procedures
Attend relevant meetings as required.
Participate in training and other learning activities and performance management as required.
Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher.
Maintain high standards in terms of personal presentation, attendance and punctuality.
To carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Senior Leadership Team.
