I am supporting a school in the Mole Valley area who are in need of Teaching Assistants to work in their special school. The work is specialised. The team is exceptional. What You Will Be Doing Providing tailored support to pupils with ASC, and complex sensory needs Using communication systems such as AAC, PECs, objects of reference or intensive interaction Supporting personal care and physical needs with dignity, respect, and confidence Helping pupils regulate, access learning, and build independence step by step Implementing sensory programmes, visual structures and therapeutic approaches Working closely with teachers and onsite therapists to deliver consistent, meaningful support Celebrating progress that may be small but deeply significant You This environment suits people who already understand the realities of hands-on SEND work and genuinely enjoy it. Autism Teaching Assistant Location: Merton, South West London Contract: Full-time, long-term Start date: ASAP Rate of pay: £90 - £100 per day PAYE (depending on experience) We are supporting a SEND school that caters to pupils aged 2 to 19 years with a range of Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism (ASC), and complex social and emotional needs and is a happy, friendly school where pupils are encouraged and supported to learn and achieve. Each child and young person within our school is treated as a unique individual, and our multi-disciplinary approach to learning provides the opportunities for them to reach their full potential. This is the chance to be part of driven and impassioned schools, where the pupils are at the forefront of everything they do, whilst also supporting staff and offering training and progression. We are working with SEND schools, Specialist Provisions (settings attached to mainstream schools specifically designed for SEND students) that cater to students with Autism and complex social and emotional struggles, heightened sensory difficulties and dysregulation. About You/The Role: Have a positive and enthusiastic approach with a passion for supporting learners with SEND Be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal Develop and maintain positive relationships across the school community Be able to multi-task Be flexible and solution-focused Be calm and patient Embrace working in a varied and sometimes unpredictable environment Undertake classroom and school-wide work Provide care for pupils Carry out pupils' support programmes Enable access to learning for pupils Assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area Work may take place anywhere within the school as necessary and will not be restricted to one class Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs Participate in assessment of pupils, e.g. lesson reviews, P-levels, observations Carry out a variety of therapy programmes with the support of therapists, including hydrotherapy Support pupils in specialist areas, e.g. swimming at the leisure centre, hydrotherapy pool, sensory room, soft play room Support pupil learning during the lunch time and play times If you are knowledgeable in Makaton, have experience using PECs/AAC, social stories etc, this would be a massive benefit in your application!
