About the Role
Unqualified SEN Teacher
- Brent, North-West London
- Full-Time | Long-Term | ASAP Start
- Monday to Friday, 8:15am - 3:45pm
- £140 – £165 PAYE per day, weekly payment
Are you passionate about Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? A thriving, inclusive primary school in Brent is seeking a dedicated Unqualified SEN Teacher to lead a specialist provision classroom supporting pupils with autism in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (Years 1–4).
This is a long-term, full-time opportunity ideal for someone with strong SEN experience who’s ready to step up into a teaching role. No formal teaching qualification is required.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead a small, structured class for pupils diagnosed with Autism (ASC)
- Deliver adapted lessons in Phonics, Maths, and Writing
- Support pupils with individual education plans (IEPs)
- Promote communication, social development, and independence
- Collaborate with the SENCO, senior leadership team, and therapists
- Oversee and guide a team of four experienced Teaching Assistants
- Track pupil progress and adapt strategies based on ongoing assessment
- Maintain a positive, calm, and inclusive classroom environment
Student Profile
- Pupils aged between 5 and 9 years old (Years 1–4)
- All have a formal diagnosis of Autism (ASC)
- Includes non-verbal pupils and those with additional learning needs
- Wide range of academic levels and learning profiles
Person Specification – Who Should Apply
We welcome applications from:
- Individuals with a background in special needs or autism education
- Aspiring teachers seeking SEN experience before PGCE, Schools Direct, or teacher training
You should demonstrate:
- Proven experience supporting children with Autism and complex SEN
- Confidence in managing a small class and working with support staff
- A calm, consistent, and structured approach to behaviour and routines
- Excellent communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills
- Passion for inclusive education and a child-centred ethos
