A rewarding role supporting young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs
Do you have a passion for supporting young people to make positive choices?
Are you looking for a role where you can truly make a difference in the lives of students who need extra support?
Would you like to be part of a team that helps young people thrive both inside and outside of the classroom?
I am currently working with several specialist schools and alternative provisions in the Wembley area who are seeking dedicated and compassionate Youth Workers to support students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEMH).
This is a full-time, term-time only position with an immediate start. It’s a brilliant opportunity for someone with a background in youth work, mentoring, or sports coaching who is keen to transition into an education setting.
As a School-Based Youth Worker, you will support young people who may display challenging behaviour, struggle to engage with learning, or have experienced trauma or adverse life experiences. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to help students re-engage, regulate, and reach their potential.
Key responsibilities:
-
Providing 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
-
Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement in learning
-
Supporting classroom learning and helping manage behaviour in a positive, proactive way
-
Assisting in creating individualised behaviour support plans alongside teachers and pastoral staff
-
Promoting resilience, self-esteem, and confidence through structured activities and positive reinforcement
-
Supporting pupils in developing social and communication skills
-
Acting as a positive role model and advocate for young people
-
Encouraging participation in enrichment activities such as sports, art, or outdoor learning
The ideal candidate will:
-
Have experience supporting young people with behavioural or emotional needs, either in schools, youth centres, or community settings
-
Be calm, empathetic, and resilient under pressure
-
Be passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education
-
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
-
Be proactive, patient, and able to adapt quickly to changing situations
-
Ideally hold Team Teach or similar de-escalation training (not essential – training can be provided)
