Job Responsibilities:

SEMH Learning Support Assistant

We are currently working with a wonderful Academy that are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work within their SEND provision, you will be supporting their secondary students who are struggling to flourish in the mainstream environment, these students have ASD, ADHD and/or SEMH. They are looking for someone who has experience working with SEMH and who is passionate and empathetic. This setting has the ethos that to learn to full potential a student has to be emotionally, mentally and physically ready. The curriculum they deliver works to specifically develop all three of these areas. They understand that physical and emotional wellbeing is off the upmost importance. If needed they offer their students out-reach mentoring and counselling services and also additional support for fine and gross motor skills.

The schools’ Occupational Therapy Teams we are working with are across London and have opportunities covering part-time, full-time, locum, or permanent. The opportunities are flexible enough to work with you and working in schools offers great work life balance.
The roles will vary depending on the type of setting and we work with Multidisciplinary/ Occupational Therapy teams in a variety of settings: Mainstream schools with ARP (Additionally Resourced Provisions) SEND schools for ASD, MLD, SLD, PMLD, SLCN, SEMH and trauma informed schools.
During school closures some of our schools lost locum staff in their Occupational Therapy teams, so a number of our schools are looking to offer permanent contracts to OTs looking for security in school based work.

Experienced Occupational Therapist (Band 6 equivalent)
Lead Occupational Therapist (Band 7/8 equivalent)

The occupational therapy teams form part of a multi-disciplinary team to drive forward programmes of development and rehabilitation.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide direct clinical care which will encompass Occupational Therapy assessments, treatment and management of needs extended to life outside of school. You will assess, implement and develop treatment programmes according to diagnosis and identified needs.
Candidate should be/have:
A registered Occupational Therapist with the HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) or registration n process.
Paediatric experience.
A passion to work in Paediatric Occupational Therapy.
An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions.
Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.

The school has 4 sites across Essex each catering for different needs, for example one of the sites caters for 25 pupils all of which are secondary students with autism, who are accessing more formal education. They also have a site where there are classes of children with PMLD (profound and multiple learning disabilities) who are accessing the engagement model. One of the sites is primary focused and for children with ASC and more behavioural needs.
The young people access therapy including SaLT, OT and rebound therapy at one of their sites. Along with opening a new school, they have recently won a grant to have other facilities such as the pool upgraded.

Requirements for SEMH Teacher:
To work as a SEMH Teacher, you will ideally hold QTS or QTLS and have relevant experience as a Teacher. Solid experience working with highly vulnerable children, pupils at risk of exploitation, gang-related issues, violent and aggressive behaviour, substance misuse, school phobic, highly disengaged pupils and anxiety disorders is beneficial but we want to hear from ALL teachers.
