Autism Support Assistant

About the Autism Support Assistant Role/Where you fit in:

  • Working with children and young people with Autism and other learning disabilities, who experienced heightened sensory needs
  • Working both on a 121 and small group basis 
  • Using therapeutic  approaches, sensory based support work, and working alongside additional therapists such as; Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, ELSAs and more. 
  • Ability to build lasting bonds with pupils who may communicate in various ways 
  • Previous knowledge and use of; PECs, Makaton, Social stories etc 
  • Someone who understands that this role is bigger than simply sitting in the classroom, and is willing to get involved in all aspects of school life.
  • An individual who is keen to help young people become as independent as possible, and leave school equipped with functional skills.
