About the role

Some of the most essential life lessons aren’t taught in textbooks. They happen when a young person realises they can trust you, that you’re not going anywhere, and that you believe in them — even when they’re struggling to believe in themselves.

I’m working with a brilliant specialist SEMH school in South West London that supports children and young people who have faced barriers in education, often due to trauma, Autism, ADHD, or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This school has a genuinely caring and nurturing environment. Staff don’t give up on students. They listen, adapt, and celebrate every bit of progress, no matter how small.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups to help them re-engage with learning
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
  • Helping students regulate emotions and encouraging positive behaviour
  • Working closely with the class teacher to create a calm, safe, and supportive environment
  • Providing feedback and assisting pupils to reflect, rebuild confidence, and grow

What the school offers

  • A supportive, understanding team that looks out for one another
  • Ongoing training on trauma-informed and restorative practice
  • Opportunities to develop and progress into pastoral, mentoring, or teaching roles
  • A leadership team that values staff wellbeing and development

About you

  • You care deeply about helping young people feel seen, heard, and understood
  • You might have experience in a school, youth work, sports coaching, or care setting
  • You’re calm under pressure, consistent, and able to hold firm boundaries with kindness
  • You believe that every young person deserves another chance
