About the Role
Children’s Speech & Language Therapy Assistant
Support communication, connection and confidence in young people with additional needs
Location: Barnet, North London
Salary: NHS Band 4 Outer London (Term time salary - £23,325 - £25,189)
Contract: Academic year, Full-Time | Term Time Only - September start
As a Children’s Speech & Language Therapy Assistant, you understand that communication is at the heart of everything we do. You’re compassionate, proactive and tuned in to the needs of children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). Whether you’re supporting small group sessions, preparing therapy materials or helping a child express themselves for the first time...you’re making an impact.
This opportunity sits within a specialist therapy service that supports children and young people with SEND across schools and community settings. You’ll work under the supervision of qualified Speech & Language Therapists to deliver therapy activities, build confidence in communication, and provide families and school staff with practical tools that make a real difference.
What you’ll be doing

Deliver 1:1 and small group speech and language interventions under therapist guidance

Support children with autism, speech sound difficulties, language delays, or social communication needs

Prepare and adapt resources, including visual supports and AAC tools

Record progress, observations and insights to help inform clinical decisions

Collaborate with families, SENCOs and therapists to support wider goals and consistency
Who we’re looking for
-
Experience supporting children or young people with communication needs in a school, early years, or therapeutic setting

Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to adapt your approach based on individual needs

A team player who is sensitive, organised and eager to learn

Someone who is curious and compassionate about the world of speech and language therapy
Bonus points if you have:

A Level 3 qualification in Health, Childcare, or Education

Experience using communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or visual schedules
-
An interest in progressing into a career as a Speech & Language Therapist
