Humanities Teacher – Specialist SEN School
- Dorking, East Surrey
- Full-time, Permanent

Do you believe every young person deserves an education that celebrates who they are, not just what they can do?
We are working with an exceptional specialist school in the heart of the Surrey Hills. The school provides a calm, therapeutic and nurturing learning environment for children and young people with Autism (ASC), ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Every detail, from the classroom layout to the curriculum design, has been carefully crafted to reduce anxiety, build confidence, and help students thrive.
About the Role
As the Humanities Teacher, you’ll bring History, Geography, and other humanities subjects to life through creativity, relevance and curiosity. You’ll teach small classes (typically 5–8 pupils) with the support of experienced teaching assistants and a strong therapy team. Lessons are highly personalised, allowing you to adapt the content, pace, and delivery to suit each learner’s needs and interests.
The school follows a broad and balanced curriculum up to GCSE level, combining academic learning with social and emotional development. You’ll see your students grow in confidence, resilience and independence, progress that’s often life-changing.
What makes this school special
- Purpose-built facilities designed around sensory needs, light, calm, and flexible learning spaces
- A multidisciplinary team comprising therapists, pastoral leads, and experienced SEND practitioners.
- A Headteacher who leads with empathy, honesty, and genuine belief in every student
- Strong emphasis on creativity, wellbeing, and life skills alongside academics
- Regular CPD, specialist training, and opportunities to grow your SEND expertise
Who we’re looking for
- Qualified Teacher (QTS or QTLS)
- Humanities specialism preferred (History/Geography/RE)
- Experience teaching at the secondary level, ideally up to GCSE
- A passion for inclusion and supporting young people with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH
- A flexible, reflective approach and strong emotional intelligence
- A teacher who values connection over control and curiosity over compliance
This is a school where staff are trusted, supported, and encouraged to bring their whole selves to work. If you’re looking for a role that combines teaching with purpose, this could be the perfect next step.
