About the Role

Learning Mentor – Secondary SEMH School – Twickenham

Twickenham, Richmond Borough | September 2025 | Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm, term time only | Temp to permanent | £95–£100 per day (PAYE only – no umbrella deductions)

Some young people just don’t fit the mould, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve somewhere to thrive.

We’re working with a small, specialist secondary school in Twickenham that supports students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs), Autism and ADHD. Many of these pupils have been excluded from mainstream settings or struggled with trust and relationships. But when they feel safe and understood, everything starts to change.

This school isn’t about control, consequence or punishment. It’s about connection, calm boundaries and showing up, every day, for the students who need you most.

What does a Learning Mentor actually do?

You’ll be that steady, consistent presence for a young person who might never have had one. Someone they can rely on, not just to help with learning, but to help them regulate when things feel overwhelming.

You’ll be based in class and around school, supporting students who need extra help to focus, feel safe, and engage with learning. Some days will be smooth, others more challenging, but with the right mindset, it’s one of the most meaningful roles out there.

You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to understand each student’s story and help shape the support they receive.

This might be a great fit if you:

  • Have experience supporting young people with SEMH, autism or additional needs, whether in schools, youth work, care or mental health
  • Know how to stay calm and grounded when things get heated
  • Are emotionally intelligent and not afraid of difficult conversations
  • Believe in patience, kindness, and holding boundaries with empathy
  • Want to be part of a team that really gets it, and will have your back

Why this school?

  • It’s small, calm and genuinely therapeutic, not chaotic
  • Trauma-informed practice is embedded throughout
  • You’ll be trained, supported and valued
  • There’s a real opportunity for growth and a strong chance of a permanent role if it’s the right fit.

At Parker Smith Inclusion, we specialise exclusively in SEND recruitment. Our reputation is built on integrity and expertise. With over 350 five-star Google reviews, we are committed to finding the right leadership opportunities for exceptional educators.

  • Exclusive roles – Many of our vacancies come to us first because schools trust our approach.
  • Genuine insight – We can tell you what the team is like, how the school works, and what to expect.
  • No umbrella payroll – PAYE only, always. No nasty surprises.

  • Specialist settings – We work with schools that support SEMH, ASC, ADHD, EBSA and more.
