About the Role

Outreach Learning Mentor – Therapeutic Support for Young People
Location: Barking and Dagenham
Full-Time | Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 4:30pm

Are you ready to make a real difference in young people’s lives?

We’re looking for an experienced mentor to join a remarkable, therapeutic organisation operating across London. The team supports some of the most vulnerable and high-risk young people, offering guidance, stability, and care under a strict no-exclusion policy.

In this role, you’ll work with young people who have been out of formal education for extended periods and may not yet be ready for a traditional classroom. Over a two-term period, you’ll help them through induction, assessment, and transition, providing consistent support and therapeutic guidance tailored to each individual.

Many of the young people you’ll support have SEMH or ASC diagnoses and complex additional needs. Some have experienced trauma, exploitation, or violence. Your role will be to build trust, offer understanding, and deliver structured, therapeutic interventions that empower them to grow.

The Impact You Could Make

Our organisation has a strong track record of helping young people re-engage with education or employment, develop emotional regulation, and process challenging experiences.

For example:
A young person struggling with low attendance, multiple exclusions, PTSD, and aggressive behaviour worked closely with a specialist mentor. Through consistent support, they transitioned to a specialist school, achieved a 93% attendance rate, and are now thriving on a tailored curriculum. You could be the mentor who changes a young person’s life in the same way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create holistic learning plans to help young people return to education

  • Deliver one-to-one, therapeutic support outside the traditional classroom

  • Guide young people from disengagement to achievement and personal growth

What We Offer

  • Reimbursement for lunch and travel expenses during working hours

  • Full-time hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

  • Opportunities to travel across London to support multiple students

What We’re Looking For

  • Confidence in managing dysregulated behaviour and understanding its underlying causes

  • A trauma-informed, therapeutic approach with a passion for supporting young people

  • Empathy, resilience, and commitment to creating positive outcomes for vulnerable youth

If you’re ready to take on a rewarding challenge and make a real difference, we want to hear from you.
