A MS Primary School in the heart of Newham, a short walk from Stratford station are seeking a SEN Teaching Assistants to support a new child moving into their SEN provision, this child is in Year 5 but learning at a KS1 level with ASC and Learning Difficulties. 

This school prides themselves on their academic level for their students therefore all candidates are expected to be bright, professional and able to support children with autism confidently, you also need to have proven experience supporting children with ASC and learning difficulties with the confidence to work on your own. You will be expected to support learning, early years & KS1 interventions such as sensory circuit, bucket time, messy play, phonics and more. 

I am looking for candidates that have previous experience within a MS Primary or SEN setting, minimum 1 year. 

The child is moving into this new school therefore will be dysregulated at first due to the change, he will need someone reasuring, empathetic and patient to support him, he shows no physical behaviours and can read and write however is experience a learning delay. The Nest Provision within this school is equipped with sand and wet play for sensory as well as core boards and more to support the child's learning, there is only 2 other students within the nest and a teacher. But to not put extra stress on current team members they need a TA that is confident to come in and hit the ground running. 

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have experience working with children with ADHD and ASC in a primary school setting.
  • Are calm, patient, and confident in managing behaviour positively and proactively.
  • Understand the importance of consistency, routine, and strong communication with staff and pupils.
  • Are committed team players with a flexible, solution-focused attitude.
  • Are flexible with changes that can come with working in a school such as a move in class or location. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted in-class support to pupils, including those with ADHD and ASC.
  • Deliver post-teaching and catch-up interventions in small groups or 1:1.
  • Support positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to ensure tailored support.
  • Foster a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.

This means there is no teaching involved however we're looking for candidates that have done the SENCo role and are confident with the policies, procedures and working hand in hand with the local authority around fundings for EHCPs. This is a small school with 22 students and their cohort has recently increased with children that have high learning needs, non-verbal, learning difficulties and complex needs and they are developing their SEN department. This opportunity is a chance to be part of something that is ever-growing, since working with this school for one year they've gone from 1 learner to 22 and are continuing to spread the message across Tower Hamlets, that each child deserves a chance at their education. We're looking for candidates that will be advocates for SEN and believe in the schools message and ethos. Must have experience with the following; Experience contributing to or leading whole-school SEND strategy, policy development, and improvement planning. Evidence of working as part of the senior leadership team (SLT) or influencing whole-school approaches to inclusion and differentiation Experience collaborating with local authority SEND officers, educational psychologists, and health and social care professionals. It involves supporting young people that struggle with their daily lives due to childhood trauma, current trauma, mental health, struggles in social settings and special needs. You are required to be an empathetic, patient, reliable person that understands these students have struggles and their behaviours are not personal but their way of communicating and need help to regulate and understand the emotions they are going through. These students need consistency and routine as they may not have this in their personal lives, you will be there support system. SEMH schools cohorts are changing meaning that there is a student increase of children with SEN needs that are being masked, leading to mainstream settings not being able to meet their needs causing them to be removed. This then leads to confusion and upset so you need to be prepared for children that are dysregulated and have the ability to support them appropriately.
