About the Role
PSHE and Citizenship Teacher – East Surrey
Permanent | September 2025 Start
£30,000 – £48,000 per annum | PAYE only
As a PSHE and Citizenship Teacher, you already know the profound influence your subject can have. In specialist education, that impact goes even deeper, equipping children and young people with the confidence, resilience, and self-awareness to navigate the world and build their own sense of identity and belonging.
Teaching students with Autism and SEMH requires a level of adaptability, empathy, and creativity that isn’t found in every school setting, but here, your work will be fully supported and genuinely valued.
This is a unique specialist school in East Surrey, specifically designed for the needs of children facing the challenges of Autism, ADHD, and SEMH. The moment you arrive, you’ll know you’re in a setting where specialist education is thoughtfully and purposefully embedded into every corner of the school.
Too often, teachers in specialist education settings are hindered by stretched resources or inconsistent support. This school is different:
- Small class sizes and excellent staff-to-student ratios
- Brand-new facilities with high-quality classroom resources
- On-site therapy teams and a supportive multidisciplinary environment
- Outdoor learning and a thriving forest school model
Leadership matters. The headteacher here is a calm, inspiring, and visionary leader, working closely with teaching and therapy staff to ensure you have everything you need to thrive. You’ll be joining a school that places wellbeing, career development, and collaboration at the heart of its culture.
Your PSHE and Citizenship curriculum will support academic understanding and foster emotional literacy, self-regulation, personal safety, community responsibility, and lifelong learning. You’ll be encouraged to adapt and tailor your teaching to meet the individual needs of each student, with full support from experienced colleagues.
This school is well-suited to:
- Teachers with QTS from either mainstream or SEN backgrounds
- Teachers ready to step away from the pressures of mainstream into a more nurturing and therapeutic approach
- Individuals passionate about making a difference through PSHE and pastoral education
- Teachers seeking progression and further SEN training
You will be fully supported from the start, whether you're making a transition from mainstream or already experienced in specialist settings. The school is proud to offer CPD and in-house training as part of your journey.
