About the Role

Special Education Needs (SEN) Teachers

Special School, Autism focused 

Newham 

M1 - M6+ SEN Point, PAYE 

January 2026 start 

A special school based in Newham are expanding their school with their focal point on autism, complex needs and behaviour challenges, a mix of primary & secondary classes and they will need new teachers for each class. 

The school boasts a brand new building in the heart of Newham, Plaistow with access to sensory is currently on a temporary site with a new permanent building being built and expected to be complete come 2026 meaning you will be part of the journey and experience with them! 

Working as part of the team means you will have on-going support, clear pathways and extra training courses always on hand to make sure you are delivering the most supportive and inclusive learning to your class. With interviews scheduled for end of April or beginning of May I'm looking to speak with individuals sooner rather than later! 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality teaching and support to students with SEN.
  • Create a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Address the diverse and complex needs of students, including behavioral and personal care requirements.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and contribute to the overall development of the school.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, or proof of awaiting QTS (for example, if you have come from overseas).
  • Experience: A background in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is highly desirable, particularly with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) or SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties).
  • Qualities: A passion for working with students with SEN, patience, and a positive attitude.
  • Training: Knowledge of positive handling techniques and autism awareness is beneficial. Training in supporting personal hygiene needs is also advantageous.

The school are looking for passionate SEN Career Development Coach & Administrator for their Year 12s to join their ethical team. Part of the role as a Job Coach will involve supporting the students with their work experience placements, college applications, work experience through the school and giving guidance, support and advice for their job placements. The other part of the role will be supporting students with independent travel and administration support. Key Responsibilities Independent Travel Trainer Deliver tailored travel training to students, ensuring they can navigate public transport safely and independently. Monitor progress, complete checklists, and report updates to line managers, class teams, and other stakeholders. Prepare and implement risk assessments for travel training activities. SEN Career Development Coach Organise and coordinate meaningful external work experience opportunities that match students’ abilities and interests.
