About the Role
Special Needs Teacher – SLD/PMLD Class
Location: Kingston Upon Thames and surrounding South West London / Surrey areas
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Long Term to Permanent
Daily PAYE Rate: £186 – £248 per day (Outer London MPS)
Are you a Qualified SEND Teacher or ECT looking for a fulfilling role in a specialist school? Do you have a passion for supporting children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism (ASC)? This is an exciting opportunity to join an Outstanding special school in Kingston from September.
The School – Specialist School in Kingston:
- Rated Outstanding by Ofsted
- Supports children and young people with SLD, PMLD, non-verbal Autism, complex communication needs and physical disabilities (including wheelchair users)
- Highly inclusive with excellent therapy integration and sensory facilities
- Focus on play-based learning, creativity, and child-led engagement
- Collaborative culture with well-established multidisciplinary teams
The Students:
- Diverse learners aged 4–19 with EHCPs
- Most are non-verbal, with sensory, physical and communication needs
- Many require alternative communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, AAC devices)
- Some exhibit dysregulated behaviour due to sensory or communication difficulties – strong positive behaviour support strategies in place
The Role – SLD/PMLD Teacher:
- Plan and deliver engaging, sensory-based lessons tailored to individual EHCP targets
- Lead a class with a strong team of SEND Teaching Assistants supporting you
- Work closely with therapists (SLT, OT, physio) to embed therapeutic goals into the classroom
- Build meaningful relationships with families and external professionals
- Contribute to a happy, safe and nurturing environment
Ideal Candidate – Who Should Apply:
- Qualified Teachers (QTS) or Early Career Teachers (ECTs) welcome
- Experience in mainstream or special schools supporting Autism, non-verbal pupils, complex needs, or wheelchair users
- Confident using visual and alternative communication methods
- Committed to inclusive education and adaptive teaching
- Able to lead a class team and collaborate with wider school professionals
