About the Role

Speech & Language Teaching Assistant 

Hackney 

September start 

£90 - £100 per day PAYE 

A MS Primary school in Hackney Wick are seeking SEN Teaching Assistants, specifically with speech and language experience. You will be based within the provision for the school that holds 10 pupils that have significant needs, primarily being pre-verbal, non-verbal or struggling with speech. As this role is working with children with high needs I can only consider candidates that have special school or special provision experience as well as worked with makaton, core boards, PECs and alternative communication tools.

The following experience is favoured: 

  • Worked in a special school and/or sen provision setting 
  • Proven experience and skill working with children that are pre-verbal, non-verbal or have SPLD 
  • Experience with MAKATON, PECS, AAC, Core Boards, Now and Next, Visual Aids, Phonics 
  • Minimum 1 year experience within a school 
  • Able to work hard and handle pressure well.
  • Proficient English language skills 
  • Fantastic communication skills 
  • Ability to work well within a team 
  • Energetic, friendly personality 
  • Open to personal care 

Beneficial Qualifications; 

  • English & Maths to GCSE / A-Level 
  • Health & Social Care Level 2/3
  • Childcare Level 2/3

Mainstream schools, where you will be working with a student with SEND 1:1 or in small groups ARP's (Alternative Resourced Provision) attached to a mainstream school, where the small group of children will all have a SEND diagnosis and are struggling to cope within the mainstream part of the school PRU's (Pupil Referral Unit) , where the students are unable to access mainstream education due to behavioural needs Specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) settings and outreach services, where the young people cannot access mainstream school due to a SEMH diagnosis, complex needs and trauma SEND schools, where the students will all have a SEND diagnosis and EHCP (Educational , Health and Care Plan), this may be ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) , ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) complex needs, PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) , these roles may require assisting with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting, and eating What experience do i need?
