The Role We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Early Years Teaching Assistant with experience working with children with complex needs and non-verbal autism. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our youngest learners, helping them to develop socially, emotionally, and academically. Responsibilities Provide individualized support to children with complex needs and non-verbal autism in the Early Years setting. Assist with the implementation of personalized learning plans and interventions. Use alternative communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, to support non-verbal children. Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to monitor and review each child's progress. Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. Assist with personal care needs, if required. Engage children in play-based learning activities to promote their development. Communicate effectively with parents/carers, providing regular updates on their child's progress and any concerns. Participate in training and professional development opportunities. Requirements Experience working with children with complex needs and non-verbal autism, preferably in an Early Years setting. A minimum of Level 2 qualification in Childcare. Knowledge of alternative communication methods, such as PECS or Makaton, is highly desirable. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. SEN Teaching Assistant Secondary Newham Autism specialism Do you have personal or professional experience with autism? Do you have a clear understanding of the challenges that come with supporting a child with autism? Are you open to being patient, understanding & empathetic to support a child that has these needs? An outstanding MS secondary school based in Newham, easily accessible by the Elizabeth Line are seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to support a young boy in year 9 that has autism. This school is structured, supportive and has high standards when it comes to their students and staff, you will be in an environment that has a clear pathway set out for your long term goals and can offer extra training if you are open to it. The role is to support a child 1:1 that has autism and learning difficulties, the childs' needs mean that he can become dysregulated and requires a TA that understands this and can set out a clear structure for him. You will need to be patient, empathetic, dedicated and committed to developing this child's education as well as his social and emotional needs. The child is within MS lessons and following the standard timetable, but this could be adapted in the future, you will be required to have fantastic communication skills for him and his family to keep them informed of his progress and positive changes you may be adding to his day to improve his behaviour. The ideal candidate needs to have experience with autism and/or special needs, secondary aged is preferred but open to speaking to candidates that also have primary experience looking to work in a secondary setting. PSHE/SEMH/Life Skills/Secondary Teacher Newham September 2025 M1 - M6 Pay Scale PRU Setting Are you a PSHE teacher within a mainstream setting and want to transition into a PRU setting? Do you have a passion for supporting disadvantaged children with life skills? Are you wanting a new challenge for your next position?
