Are you a committed and supportive Teaching Assistant with a passion for working with young people who have special educational needs? A progressive SEN school in the London Borough of Havering is looking for a Post-16 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team from September 2025.

This is a rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in the development of students aged 16 and over, helping them gain the confidence and skills they need for life beyond school.

The Role

As a Post-16 Teaching Assistant, you will support students with a range of additional needs including Autism, SEMH, and learning difficulties. Working closely with teachers and therapists, you will help deliver practical, life-skills-based education tailored to each student’s individual needs and education, health and care plans (EHCPs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students in developing key life skills including communication, functional literacy and numeracy, personal care, and travel training

  • Promote emotional well-being, confidence, and social development through a trauma-informed, person-centred approach

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external professionals to implement and review personalised learning plans

  • Monitor and support students' progress towards EHCP outcomes, adapting your approach to suit individual needs

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs (Post-16 experience is desirable but not essential)

  • A compassionate, consistent, and proactive approach to learning support

  • A good understanding of autism, social and emotional mental health needs, and neurodiversity

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to inclusive education
