Are you passionate about building strong partnerships between school and home to support vulnerable young people? 

We are working with a Pupil Referral Unit based in central London who are seeking a Family Liaison Officer to join them in September. The PRU supports students who have been unable to thrive in mainstream education due to a range of social, emotional, behavioural, or personal challenges. They provide a nurturing and structured environment where young people can rebuild their confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve qualifications that open doors to their future.

About the role:

As Family Liaison Officer, you will be the vital link between families, students, and school staff. You will work closely with parents and carers to help with positive relationships, improve students' attendance, and support students’ emotional and social wellbeing. Your role will be key in removing barriers to learning and ensuring families feel supported and engaged throughout their child’s educational journey.

Key responsibilities for the role;

  • Building trusting and effective relationships with families and carers.

  • Supporting families to engage with school processes and services.

  • Working alongside teaching staff and external agencies to coordinate support plans.

  • Helping to improve student attendance and punctuality through positive interventions.

  • Providing advice, guidance, and practical support to families facing challenges.

  • Facilitating workshops, meetings, and home visits as appropriate.

Requirements for the role;

  • Experience working with families, ideally in an educational or community setting.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Empathy, patience, and resilience.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality protocols.

  • Understanding of the challenges faced by children and families in diverse urban communities.
