About the Role
Humanities Teacher – Geography and RE (Autism/ ADHD/ SEMH)
Mole Valley, Surrey
Full-time, Permanent
September 2025
£28,000 to £45,000 (depending on experience and qualification)
Suitable for: Qualified teachers or experienced unqualified teachers with a relevant SEN or subject background.
Are you a Geography or RE teacher seeking something deeper, more human, meaningful, and connected?
This role is at a specialist school in the Surrey Hills, supporting pupils aged 7 to 16 who are autistic and/or have ADHD. Many pupils have co-occurring communication and social needs and may have faced negative experiences in education before.
Here, small class sizes, therapeutic practice, and a relational approach give teachers the space to teach and the time to connect.
We are looking for a compassionate and creative humanities teacher who is passionate about geography and religious education. You will deliver lessons in your subject area while adjusting content and approach to meet each child's unique needs, making learning relevant, accessible, and engaging.
You do not need QTS to apply. We welcome applications from teachers with strong subject knowledge and relevant SEN experience, even without formal qualifications.
The role includes:
- Teaching Geography and RE to small classes of 6 to 8 pupils, supported by LSAs and therapists
- Adapting the curriculum to re-engage pupils who may have knowledge gaps or past trauma in learning
- Using therapeutic and relational methods to help pupils feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn
- Encouraging exploration of beliefs, values, culture, identity, and the wider world in ways meaningful to each learner
- Working collaboratively within a team that includes SEN Teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff
What you’ll gain:
- A curriculum you can shape for your pupils, with the time and space to deliver it well
- A supportive environment with training, mentoring, and a commitment to therapeutic practice
- Access to facilities, including theatre space, a science lab, design tech, and creative areas, along with learning outside the classroom in the beautiful countryside
- An opportunity to be part of a progressive team that values kindness, flexibility, and high expectations
We’re looking for:
- A confident educator with subject knowledge in Geography and/or RE
- Experience working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, or related needs or a genuine interest in SEND
- Someone who can build trust, set clear boundaries, and maintain a calm and structured classroom presence
- A teacher who sees personal development and wellbeing as important as academic outcomes
This is more than a teaching job. It’s a chance to work in a school where relationships come first, creativity is encouraged, and the impact of your work can last a lifetime.
