I am looking for a Pastoral Support Lead for a brand new SEMH specialist provision in the Royal Borough of Richmond Upon Thames – Could it be you?

Set within a therapeutic environment, the school is well-informed on neurodiversity, emotional, sensory, and physical needs, relationships, and attachment. The provision demonstrates inclusive, strengths-based practice, and the resilient development of every child is at the core of its ethos. As this provision was opened in September 2024, they currently have 7 students enrolled.

About the Pastoral Support Lead position

The Pastoral Support Lead will work with all pupils but have a particular complex caseload to coordinate and conduct multi-disciplinary assessments, undertake family work as required, work individually with some students, liaise with Social Care, and oversee new pupil introduction. You will provide the link between families and the school. This will include addressing concerns and monitoring pupil attendance, overall results, and punctuality, as well as ensuring a strong communication channel with all partnership agencies and parents/carers. The role will see you supporting the Headteacher and the Senior Teacher with managerial tasks such as assigning duties to Teaching Assistants, and you will complete individual Education and Behavioural Plans for each pupil, identifying what matters require more focus.

There are many responsibilities connected to this position, such as developing Integration Plans for pupils coming to school for the first time, identifying possible issues of concern regarding pupils' pastoral and academic progress, organizing inter-agency meetings, and expanding ongoing liaison with external works such as Youth Offending Teams, Police, and other curriculum support areas.

£20,000 - £25,000 per annum (Actual), depending on experience
Behaviour / Mental Health Teaching Assistant - Secondary Full-Time, Permanent | Mole Valley, Surrey Start Date: September 2025 Salary: £20,000 – £25,000 per annum (depending on experience) Be the Person Who Makes School Make Sense For some young people, school has never been a place of success or safety. They’ve felt overwhelmed, misunderstood, or simply left behind. But everything can change with the right environment and people around them. That’s where you come in. A School Where Every Interaction Matters This incredible specialist school in the heart of the Surrey countryside has been purposefully designed to support children with autism, ADHD, and associated social, emotional, and mental health needs. Here, learning is personalised, therapeutic, and meaningful, focusing on what each pupil can do, not what they can’t. Class sizes are small (typically 6–8 pupils), with a skilled SEN Teacher and Teaching Assistant working as a team to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive. As a TA, you’ll play a vital role in building trust, developing confidence, and helping young people reconnect with learning, many for the very first time. What You Can Expect: A calm, nurturing setting designed for success for both pupils and staff A new campus with specialist spaces, including a multi-sports hall, forest school, theatre room, and dedicated therapy suites A structured, fully integrated therapeutic approach that supports well-being as much as academic progress Opportunities to work closely with therapists, SEN professionals, and a supportive leadership team Real, meaningful progress, whether that’s a pupil answering a question for the first time or walking through the school gates with a smile Who You Are: You might already have experience supporting children or young people with SEND, or perhaps you’ve worked in youth services, care, or a pastoral role and are looking to take the next step. Most importantly, you’re calm, patient, resilient, and believe every pupil deserves to feel safe and successful at school. If you’re compassionate, curious, and ready to learn, we’ll provide the training, mentoring, and support you need to make a real impact from day one. Your Impact Will Last a Lifetime This isn’t just a job; it’s a chance to be part of a team that’s changing lives, one child at a time. Whether it’s helping pupils regulate their emotions, encouraging them to take part in a lesson, or simply being a trusted adult they can rely on, your role as a Teaching Assistant will make a lasting difference.
