About the Role

SEN Learning Support Assistant - MS Primary within ARP - September 2025

The School: 

I am working with a MS Primary School based a short walk from East Ham station that is part of a larger trust, they have a growing need for SEN support within their Autism provision created to set up pathways for children that require additional support. 

The Role as a SEN Learning Support Assistant:

As a SEN Learning Support Assistant you will be working 1:1 and in group setting supporting children that display additional needs such as autism, dyslexia, speech & language challenges, global delay and other complex needs. You will be the support system for this child and for the teacher meaning you have to be committed, passionate and patient to help these children every day. 

Experience required/desired 

  • Previous experience working with SEN children in a school or personal capacity (essential) 
  • A clear understanding of autism and how it can affect children's behaviour
  • Fantastic behaviour management skills 
  • Experience of working with children that display dysregulated behaviour 
  • Team teach, autism awareness trained is desired but not essential.

This long-term position offers the opportunity to secure a permanent role after two successful terms. You will play a vital part in promoting students’ wellbeing, helping them overcome barriers to learning, and creating a safe, consistent and nurturing environment. You will be the first point of call for students that are dysregulated within class, assisting to de-escalate on the spot or take action to use interventions to support that child to go back to a regulated state. You will need to be fantastic with communication skills, proven track record of building rapport and trust as well as being empathetic and understand the individual needs of each child. All of the children that this school are secondary aged but functioning at a primary aged level, you need to meet them where they are at not where you expect them to be. Specialist SEND Support Assistant (High-Quality, Experienced) Role: Specialist SEND Support Assistant (Split Role: AM and PM Support) Stratford - Immediate Start Are you a high-quality, experienced member of staff ready for a specialist challenge? A Primary School in Stratford is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Specialist TA to support the complex needs of two distinct pupils currently attending part-time, with the shared goal of building towards full-time attendance. We are looking for candidates of high caliber and quality. The Role and Responsibilities This position requires flexibility and expertise, as the assistant will transition between two highly specialised support roles during the day: Morning Focus (Supporting Child 1): Provide intensive support within our dedicated specialist class. The specialist class is a small group (eight or nine children) and includes access to a soft play sensory room and a specialist teacher. Support a child who has social struggles and non-verbal. The child is new to the country (Romanian) and previously recommended by an educational psychologist to probably be in a special school. The child has some previous schooling history (nursery and one school) but has not attended the second school for three or four years. Afternoon Focus (Supporting Child 2): Support a pupil in Year Five. Manage and support a child with a history of challenging behavior, focusing on maintaining the recent reduction in incidents (e.g., currently maybe one push this week). Support a child who has experienced lots of trauma related to their journey and reasons for being here. Address significant underlying needs that were not being met. The pupil is new to the country, whose previous education system was very different, and who initially arrived not on medication he had previously been taking. The child has recently returned to school attendance after spending the rest of the last academic year in the PRU (Pupil Referral Unit/Placement Unit). Provide focused support due to his EAL (English as an Additional Language) level, which is still at the initial learning stage (around Year One level). Candidate Requirements The successful candidate must be a specialist and an experienced member of staff. We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate: Proven experience as a SEND specialist TA. Expertise in supporting pupils with complex behavioral needs and trauma. Ability to support non-verbal children and those recommended for special school placements. Understanding of the challenges facing pupils who are new to the country (EAL). CVs and profiles will be reviewed to ensure a high-quality match.
