A well established special school in East London are actively seeking an experienced teacher for maternity cover for their primary site for September 2025. The students within this school are secondary & post-16 with autism and communication needs. As the children are older you will be focusing a lot on teaching life and independency skills as well as a subject specific curriculum. You will also have access to therapy and sensory rooms, large outdoor space with resources to encourage movement.
Operating as a part of a trust that functions across East London, this special school boasts incredible development and training opportunities with a focus on staff retention and supporting talent. It is a fantastic environment to expand or learn new skills within a special needs environment.
As this role is maternity cover ideally we are seeking Teachers that have experience within an SEN setting, however MS teachers with experience of SEN within their class are also welcomed.
Requirements;
- QTS or equivalent
- Special Education Degree (desirable)
- Experience within a special school setting preferred or can display strong experience with SEN children in a professional setting
- Experience with children that display SLD, ASC, SPLD
- Teach individuals or small groups of pupils within or outside the class
- Prepare lessons and resources
- Mark and assess work
- Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet individual pupil need
- Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists
- Behaviour management
