About the Role
SEND Teaching Assistant
Special School for Pupils with Complex Needs and PMLD
Full Time | Long Term or Temp to Perm
We are working with a specialist school in Haringey that is seeking calm, patient and dedicated support staff to join their team. The school supports children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, complex medical needs, communication difficulties and physical disabilities. Many pupils are non-verbal and rely on sensory input, consistency and specialist support throughout the school day.
As a member of the support staff team, you will help create a safe, calm and nurturing environment where pupils can learn, communicate and develop at their own pace. Your role will involve assisting with learning activities, following personalised plans, supporting communication, helping with sensory work and routines, and working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals.
No two days are the same in this setting. You may support pupils with movement, sensory exploration, physio programmes and activities designed to build communication and independence. You will need to be flexible, observant and ready to adapt your approach depending on each child’s needs and emotional state.
The school is looking for individuals who are caring, reliable and confident working within a specialist provision. Experience in SEND, PMLD, complex needs, care, or supporting non-verbal pupils is helpful, but the school is also open to people with the right attitude, resilience and willingness to learn.
This is an incredibly rewarding role where small steps of progress mean everything. You will be part of a supportive, skilled and friendly team who share a genuine commitment to the wellbeing and development of their pupils.
