About the Role
SEND Teaching Assistant
£90-100 per day PAYE
Long Term
What schools and settings do we work with?.
- Mainstream schools, where you will be working with a student with SEND 1:1 or in small groups
- ARP's (Alternative Resourced Provision) attached to a mainstream school, where the small group of children will all have a SEND diagnosis and are struggling to cope within the mainstream part of the school
- PRU's (Pupil Referral Unit) , where the students are unable to access mainstream education due to behavioural needs
- Specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) settings and outreach services, where the young people cannot access mainstream school due to a SEMH diagnosis, complex needs and trauma
- SEND schools, where the students will all have a SEND diagnosis and EHCP (Educational , Health and Care Plan), this may be ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) , ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) complex needs, PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) , these roles may require assisting with personal care (washing, dressing, toileting, and eating
What experience do i need?
Experience with SEND is always beneficial to the role, but that doesn't have to be as a SEND Teaching Assistant, it could be-
- Personal experience with a family member with SEND
- Working in a nursery
- Working as a Carer or support worker
- Completing a Psychology degree
- Aspiring Teacher, Social Worker, Psychologist and wanting to gain more experience

Parker Smith Inclusion are seeking an experienced professional to join a specialist team supporting children and young people in an alternative provision in Newham. This is a short-term, fixed-term role funded until the end of March, offering an immediate opportunity to make a tangible impact in a dynamic and multi-agency environment.
The Role:
The role combines management, strategy, and direct intervention. You will provide light-touch line management to a skilled group of staff and external specialists while also maintaining a small caseload of young people yourself. The work focuses on improving structure, monitoring, and reporting, while continuing to deliver meaningful interventions that demonstrate positive outcomes for pupils.
The post has become available following an internal promotion of the previous post-holder, whose strong track record of relationship building, reporting, and hands-on support with children sets a clear benchmark for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Provide light-touch line management to a team including safeguarding and transitions coaches, as well as external professionals.
Strengthen reporting systems for interventions, including tracking outcomes and meeting Department for Education requirements.
Manage a small personal caseload and deliver targeted interventions with children and young people.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff, maintaining a balance of leadership and hands-on practice.
Collaborate closely with multi-agency partners to address safeguarding and support needs effectively.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Safeguarding expertise, ideally including DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) training.
Proven management and leadership experience.
Strong organisational and reporting skills with the ability to create and embed structure.
Experience of working in a PRU, alternative provision, outreach, or youth work setting.
Confidence and skill in working directly with children and young people with complex needs.
Personal Attributes
Approachable, relatable, and able to engage effectively with young people.
Excellent communicator, capable of navigating multi-agency environments with professionalism.
Adaptable, proactive, and organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

A special school that caters for children from aged 5 - 15 years old displaying autism, severe learning difficulties and complex needs and they are seeking an experienced professional HLTA to support all classes across the school. This school creates its classes based on capabilities meaning they are mixed aged groups, they are focusing on a sensory based curriculum and all learning from an EYFS - KS2 lesson plan.
This school is moving to a brand new building come February 2026 so this is the chance to be part of a bigger journey, offering teacher training pathways and continued training support.
I'm looking for candidates that have the following experience;
Experience within a special school or specialist provision
Ideally experience within both primary & secondary
Can clearly display experience working with children that are non-verbal and display dysregulated behaviour
Capable of covering lessons based around sensory circuits, bucket time, core boards, AACs
Overall confidence to guide and mentor TAs on how they should be supporting their class or 1:1 support
HLTA qualification desired but not essential

About the role of Special Educational Needs Teacher:
As a Special Educational Needs Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering creative and engaging lessons for small classes of students (6-8) learning from an adapted curriculum and intervention learning which include; Lexia, Read Write Inc, White Rose as well as ASDAN and Social Skills.
This particular role requires a Teacher that has experience of the above skills as well as been an advocate for special educational needs, you will be working with a team of TAs and HLTAs and expected to guide them on how they can support their 1:1 students within MS lessons, advising SEN knowledge and skill set.
