Job Title: Teaching Assistant – BTEC Food Technology (Immediate Start)
Location: SEMH Secondary School, London Borough of Newham
Salary: £100 - £120 per day
Contract Type: Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges? Do you have experience or a strong interest in Food Technology? We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our team for an immediate start!

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for delivering BTEC Food Technology lessons to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work within a supportive team to provide engaging and structured lessons, helping students develop practical and theoretical knowledge in Food Technology while supporting their emotional and behavioral needs.

The School:

The school supports children from primary all the way to post-16 whom cannot access mainstream school due to, mental health, SEN, SEMH, trauma, anxiety, depression, behaviour and other needs and it creates bespoke lesson plans to meet the needs of the children. Their wellbeing and attendance comes first, meaning that they have never permanently excluded and they never give up on any child. As a therapeutic school they have SALTs, OTs and EPs on site that all students have access to. You will be part of an ever developing organisation which is helping young children within the London Borough of Newham. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support BTEC Food Technology lessons tailored to individual student needs.

  • Assist in planning and implementing structured and engaging lesson activities.

  • Support students in developing practical cooking skills and understanding food safety.

  • Foster a supportive and understanding relationship with students to encourage confidence and progression.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students.

  • Manage and support students with SEMH needs, challenging behavior, and trauma within a school or community setting.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and engagement.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience or a strong interest in Food Technology.

  • Ability to plan and adapt sessions based on individual student needs.

  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach.

  • Full UK driving license (preferred) as some sessions may be delivered offsite.
