About the Role
Behaviour Mentor – SEMH Teaching Assistant
Richmond, South West London
£90 – £95 per day PAYE only
September 2025 Start | Long-Term to Permanent
Sometimes, the most rewarding jobs aren’t the easiest.
You walk into the classroom each morning and don’t know what kind of day it will be. You might be met with silence, a storm of emotions, or a young person who simply doesn’t trust yet. But you show up – calm, grounded, and ready – because you know that consistency is the beginning of trust.
This school in Richmond is different. It was built for children with Autism, ADHD, and SEMH – those who’ve been misunderstood, excluded, or left behind in other settings. The school isn’t just growing in numbers, it’s growing in heart, direction, and impact.
And now, they’re looking for someone like you.
A Behaviour Mentor who understands that behaviour is communication. Someone who can calmly de-escalate a situation before it reaches crisis, knows how to stand firm with kindness, and celebrates the smallest wins because those wins mean everything in this setting.
You’ll be:
- A steady presence in the classroom, supporting children aged 7–16 alongside a passionate teacher
- Helping students regulate their emotions, stay engaged in learning, and feel safe
- Working within a small, well-supported class with access to excellent training
- Building strong relationships with pupils who need connection before they can learn
- Part of a school that values its staff, nurtures their careers, and provides the tools to grow
You may have already worked in care, in a PRU, in youth work, or as a Teaching Assistant in an SEMH setting. Wherever you come from, what matters is your experience with Autism and SEMH, your emotional resilience, and your drive to make a difference.
In return, the school offers:
- A therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to behaviour and learning
- A leadership team who genuinely value their staff
- Ongoing CPD and clear progression pathways
- The chance to build a meaningful, long-term career in SEND
