About the Role

Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Secondary PRU

Location: Newham, East London
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Term Time Only
Salary: £100 per day (PAYE)

Parker Smith Inclusion are seeking a committed and resilient Teaching Assistant to support young people with complex needs in a secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Newham, East London. This is a term-time only position, starting in September 2025, offering a daily rate of £100 via PAYE.

This role will suit someone who is passionate about working with pupils who present challenging behaviour and have been referred to alternative provision due to a range of social, emotional, and mental health needs. Many of the students have additional diagnoses, including ADHD, anxiety, and other complex conditions, and follow personalised timetables to meet their individual learning and support needs.

The Role

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 or small group basis both in and out of the classroom

  • Assisting in the delivery of bespoke learning plans and managing transitions throughout the school day

  • Promoting a safe and supportive environment that encourages positive behaviour and engagement

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff, and external professionals

  • Contributing to behaviour management planning and the emotional regulation of pupils

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour, ideally within a PRU, SEMH school, or alternative provision

  • A patient, calm, and consistent approach

  • Ability to build trust and strong relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education

  • Good understanding of safeguarding and the ability to maintain clear professional boundaries

  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

  • Term time only, full-time hours (Monday to Friday)

I am seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teacher to join their team to run and develop their inclusion class you will play a key role in delivering high-quality education to pupils with special educational needs (SEN). The curriculum and planning are ready, but I am looking for the right person to deliver it effectively and inspire the students to achieve their full potential.
