Are you looking to work with a friendly and supportive team in a fantastic Mainstream Secondary School supporting young people with SEND?

I am working with a fantastic outstanding secondary school in North East London that is looking for two experienced secondary teaching assistants to join their supportive team. They are looking for suitable candidates who have experience working with secondary students with SEN, ideally experience with ASD, ADHD and Physical and/or Sensory needs. This experience can be previous work experience or personal experience. 

These roles are going to be 1:1 working with the child within their mainstream lessons and assisting them around the school, one child is in Year 11 and the other is in Year 8, both struggle with discipline and require a TA that has the balance of nurture and authority, ability to implement the schools rules and regulations. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants to join a Secondary School working to have a hugely positive effect on the lives of pupils.

Requirements of a Mainstream Secondary School SEN TA:

  • Previous experience working as an SEN Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant within a Secondary School would be highly valued
  • Previous experience working with Autism and ADHD or other SEND would be highly valued
  • Previous experience working to support secondary-age pupils with Special Educational Needs
  • If you don't have school-based experience, then to have personal experience with SEND 
  • A friendly and positive person with a resilient personality

Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant Special School Setting - Primary & Secondary Autism & Complex Needs Newham, Plaistow Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist) About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with a specialism in Autism (ASC) to join our supportive and experienced team. This role involves working with secondary-aged students with Autism and complex needs, many of whom learn through a sensory-based curriculum. You will play a key part in helping students access learning, develop communication and independence skills, and engage positively with school life. The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable, and confident in supporting young people with diverse needs. Key Responsibilities Provide tailored support to students with Autism and complex needs, ensuring their learning needs are met. Assist in delivering a sensory curriculum, adapting activities and environments to meet individual needs. Build positive, trusting relationships to promote emotional regulation and engagement. Use proactive and responsive strategies to de-escalate behaviour, including being confident and able to intervene physically when required, following the school’s behaviour support and safe handling policies. Support students with personal care, including hygiene, toileting, and feeding where necessary.
