About the Role

Complex Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Havering
Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full-time | Temp-to-perm | Start: ASAP

"Every child’s journey is different. Our role is to walk beside them, not push them ahead."

An inclusive primary school in Havering is looking for a dedicated Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join their Autism Resource Provision. This specialist base, within the wider mainstream school, provides a calm and supportive space where pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition are encouraged to develop at their own pace.

Here, progress is measured in meaningful steps — every achievement, no matter how small, is valued and celebrated.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting pupils aged 4–11 within a small, specialist classroom

  • Using visuals, objects of reference, and assistive strategies to aid communication

  • Encouraging independence through structure, consistency, and clear routines

  • Assisting with transitions between activities and environments

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure joined-up support

About You

  • Experience with autism is an advantage, but not essential — transferable skills from care, youth work, or community settings are equally welcome

  • Calm, patient, and curious about behaviour — seeking to understand rather than simply manage it

  • Comfortable working within structure and routine, where predictability helps children thrive

  • Looking for a role with purpose and meaning, not just a payslip

  • Reliable, caring, and open to learning every day

What the School Offers

  • A purpose-built provision with sensory areas and specialist resources

  • A supportive team who work collaboratively and look out for each other

  • Leadership that invests in staff wellbeing and professional growth

  • Clear pathways into teaching and specialist SEND careers
