Outreach Autism Tutor
Richmond
South West London
£120 - £130 per day paid PAYE
Outreach Autism Tutor - September 2025
We are currently seeking an experienced and emotionally intelligent Tutor to work 1:1 with a 17-year-old student with autism.
This is not a “sit at a desk and teach from a worksheet” kind of role. This is about building trust, forming a genuine connection, and helping a bright, complex young person re-engage with education—in a way that works for him.
You’ll be part educator, part mentor, part cheerleader—guiding him through academic work while also helping him explore his identity, manage emotions, and prepare for life beyond school.
This young man is highly intelligent, sharp-witted, and hilarious—with a serious side-eye for authority and a love of pushing the boundaries. His autism presents in a way that makes rigid routines, unfamiliar environments, and social demands challenging at times. But when he feels safe and heard? He shines.
He thrives on conversation, humour, and being intellectually stimulated, so you’ll need to be someone who can match his energy, listen deeply, and offer gentle but consistent structure.
There will be challenging moments—he’s still figuring out how to regulate his emotions—but this is also the kind of role where you’ll see real, meaningful progress and know it’s because of the relationship you built.
Responsibilities:
Delivering tailored, 1:1 academic sessions in a quiet, supportive outreach centre
Using a trauma-informed, autism-aware approach to build emotional regulation skills
Working collaboratively with a wider network of professionals (mentors, therapists, etc.)
Planning sessions that balance learning, self-esteem building, and future readiness
Acting as a stable, consistent adult figure during a pivotal period of the student’s life.

Benefits to you:
You’ll have a real impact. You’re not just helping someone pass exams—you’re helping them rebuild trust in adults, education, and themselves.
Professional development. We’re big believers in upskilling. Whether it’s Team Teach, autism-specific CPD, safeguarding refreshers, or learning how to implement emotion coaching, we’ve got your back.
Stability & consistency. No endless school-hopping. This is a long-term placement with Monday to Friday hours—8:30am to 4:00pm, no evenings or weekends.
What you will need:
Experience working with autistic students in an education, outreach or SEN setting
Confidence in managing challenging behaviours with empathy, not punishment
A strong understanding of the sensory, social, and communication differences linked to autism
Patience, a sense of humour, and a deep belief in every young person’s potential
A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Post 16 Complex Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: East London
Pay: £85 to £100 per day (PAYE)
Contract: Full time | Temp to Perm Opportunity
“Imagine helping a young person with complex needs take their first steps towards independence — and knowing you played a part in that journey.”
This role is not just about education — it is about preparing young people for life. We are working with a progressive, inclusive specialist school in East London that supports students aged 16 to 19 with a range of complex needs. Many are neurodivergent, non verbal, or require physical support — and they are also artists, gamers, musicians, deep thinkers, and full of potential.
Here, learning can look like:
Practising travel skills to build confidence on public transport
Preparing a simple meal with support
Managing sensory input in a busy space
Learning to self advocate — in whatever way that communication happens
As a Post 16 Teaching Assistant, your role is to support these young people emotionally, practically and socially as they begin to navigate the world of adulthood. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and families to make every day meaningful, empowering and tailored to each student’s individual journey.
Your day to day might include:
Supporting a small group of students on personalised timetables
Assisting with life skills sessions such as cooking and money handling
Using AAC, Makaton or communication grids to support interaction
Providing personal care (feeding, toileting, hoisting — full training provided)
Helping students manage behaviours linked to anxiety, trauma or communication needs
This role would suit someone who:
Has experience in SEND, care work or youth support — or is strongly motivated to enter this field
Is calm, patient and emotionally intelligent, especially in challenging moments
Understands that progress does not always look linear — it can be quiet, subtle and deeply meaningful
Wants to make a lasting difference as young people transition into adult life
This is the kind of role that asks for your full attention — but gives back in moments you will carry with you long after the school day ends.

Send your CV to Elisha at elisha@psinclusion.co.uk — we would love to hear from you.
