1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant Islington January 2026 We are supporting a mainstream school in Islington who are looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to work with a pupil who will be moving from a Pupil Referral Unit through an EHCP consultation to the mainstream setting. There is a great opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of a child transitioning from a PRU to a mainstream environment. The pupil has SEMH needs and a diagnosis of ASC. Someone with a nurturing but boundary-ed approach, with knowledge of trauma and informed practice, is really important. The Role Providing consistent nurturing support while maintaining clear boundaries. Applying trauma-informed practices to promote emotional well-being and engagement. Supporting the pupil in class, during structured activities, and unstructured times such as break and lunch. Helping the pupil build confidence, resilience, and independence. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, families, and external professionals to deliver tailored support and monitor progress. Being a positive role model and helping the pupil to develop strategies to manage emotions and behaviour. About You Experienced in supporting children with SEMH needs or highly motivated to learn and develop in this area.
