Art Therapist – PRU

Contract: Temp to Perm / Full-Time

About the Role:
A Central London Pupil Referral Unit is seeking a compassionate and creative Art Therapist to support young people with complex emotional, social, and behavioural needs. This is a unique opportunity to use therapeutic art techniques to help students explore their emotions, build resilience, and develop coping strategies in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver individual and group art therapy sessions tailored to students’ needs.

Use creative processes to support emotional expression, trauma recovery, and personal development.

Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure holistic care.

Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing reporting.

Support students’ engagement with learning through therapeutic interventions.
Person Specification:
-
Recognised Art Therapy qualification (e.g., MA in Art Therapy or equivalent) and HCPC registration.

Experience working with children and young people, ideally in SEMH or PRU settings.

Strong understanding of mental health, trauma-informed care, and safeguarding.

Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy, and patience.

Ability to remain professional, adaptable, and collaborative in challenging situations.
