Pupil Referral Unit - PRU Teacher

We are looking for a PRU Teacher to join a supportive and welcoming team within a PRU based in Hackney. The school caters to students from KS1 through to KS5, supporting young people who are unable to access mainstream education, they have some students on long or short placements that will be returning back into mainstream or supporting students that will be moving on to further education or work. This is a fantastic school and staff feel valued and welcomed and have a great support network at the school.  The students will have challenging behaviour, SEMH and other additional needs, they may have feelings of rejection, failure and disillusionment with school, and the PRU provides a safe and supportive learning space with personalised learning plans and support for every child.

What are the school looking for;

  • Therapeutic teaching approach
  • Social Emotional Mental Health experience
  • Experience of teaching with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies
  • Positive role model to support communication, with a sensitive, nurturing, and consistent approach
  • Experience with SEMH, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication teaching background
  • Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students
  • Experience of working with challenging behaviour

  • Extensive specialist training from SEMH Specialists
  • Gaining experience with a variety of SEND 

PRU Teacher requirements

  • The passion to teach and inspire young people during a crucial stage of their personal and academic development.
  • QTS or QTLS
  • Experience working with disengaged students who have additional needs either in mainstream or SEND settings 
  • A nurturing, patient, empathetic and holistic approach

Although experience teaching in SEMH specialist settings is beneficial I would also love to hear from individuals who are interested in taking their first steps into SEND settings.
