The role
I am looking for an enthusiastic, resilient individual who can teach Science to young people aged 9 – 16. This fantastic specialist school is based in Merton supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. All students have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and therefore require a Science Teacher who can be adaptable to help support their education. The school adopt a therapeutic approach to teaching throughout their curriculum. This school are seeking a science teacher who can provide their students with a solid education that they may not otherwise have access to in a mainstream school.
The ideal Science Teacher
The ability to be adaptable, resilient and compassionate is key to working in a SEMH school. Although academic achievement is important, it is also important that you possess the skills to support the children through emotional distress. The successful candidate should be competent in teaching science. QTS isn’t essential however a great personality and confidence is! This s Due to this being long term sickness cover, lesson plans have already been made.
What We Are looking for - Science Teacher
- Therapeutic teaching approach
- Able to deliver core subjects
- Ability to teach core subjects ideally with a Science specialism
- Experience in teaching with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies
- Positive role model to support communication, with a sensitive, nurturing, and consistent approach
- Experience with SEMH, Trauma, Sensory processing, social communication teaching background
- Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students
- Experience working with disengaged teenagers is essential
